How to identify vermiculite
Vermiculite looks like loose, pebble-sized, gold-to-brown flakes. It pours easily and often sits between attic joists in a thin layer. If you can see the top of the joists, you are likely looking at a loose-fill insulation like vermiculite or cellulose.
The right way to test
Our inspectors work from a ladder at the attic hatch — we do not walk on the material. A small composite sample is drawn using a pole-mounted collector, sealed on-site, and sent to a lab for TEM analysis. Results typically return within 3–5 business days.
